New Equipment, Diagnostic Services Available
At Claiborne County Hospital and Nursing Home
January 24,
2007
Claiborne
County Hospital and Nursing Home has recently completed several facility and
equipment improvements that will further improve the services provided to
the residents of Claiborne County and surrounding areas. New equipment in
the Radiology and Laboratory Departments and the development of a new Sleep
Center located inside the hospital are just a few of the recent improvements
to our county-owned healthcare facility.
Radiology Improvements
The Radiology
Department recently added a new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine
that is comparable to MRIs utilized in the Knoxville area. This MRI machine
is “in-house”, or permanently located at the hospital, instead of a mobile
unit used by some facilities. The stationary MRI provides much clearer,
sharper images, and having it located in our community makes it easier for
local residents to have needed tests performed locally instead of having to
travel over an hour to obtain the same procedure. Besides the MRI, the
Radiology Department also has a new 16 slice CT scanner, a GE dual-head
Nuclear Medicine machine, and other advanced radiology equipment for better
healthcare for the community.

New Lab Equipment
Another
area of updated services is the hospital laboratory’s UniCel DXC 600i
Synchron Access Clinical System equipment, which was installed in the lab in
September, 2006. This machine processes up to 40 samples at one time and
currently performs 48 tests simultaneously, but has the capability to add an
additional 41 new tests in the future. It has advanced safety features for
the employees and has decreased turn-around-times on laboratory test results
which gets results faster to the physician. This is another area in which
Claiborne County Hospital is as technically advanced as other hospitals much
larger in size. In fact, according to Laboratory Director Brandi Callebs,
Claiborne County Hospital was the first hospital in the state of Tennessee
to install this state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Many laboratory
representatives from area hospitals have visited Claiborne County Hospital
Lab to see the new equipment in consideration for their own hospital. |

Sleep Center

A new
diagnostic service that many members of the community are unaware of is the
new Sleep Center located at Claiborne County Hospital. There are very few
hospitals in Tennessee that have their own Sleep Centers, and one of them is
located right in our back door.
The Sleep
Center, where people schedule appointments through their family physicians
to come to the hospital, spend the night, and be monitored for sleep apnea
or other sleep disorders, is located in the main floor of the hospital and
has short waits for appointments. The cost is also considerably less than
that charged by larger hospitals in the East Tennessee area. |

These services
are just some of the recent improvements to Claiborne County Hospital and
Nursing Home, and there are other updates and new programs planned for 2007.
