Signs and symptoms that you may have a sleep disorder include:
- Loud snoring
- Snore loudly and stop breathing when you sleep
- Morning headaches
- Get so sleepy during the daytime that you need to take a nap or lie down to rest even though you had plenty of sleep
- Dry mouth upon awakening
- Fall asleep while driving
- Fall asleep easily at inappropriate times or are chronically fatigued
- Get sleepy during certain time of the day, but have trouble sleeping at night
- Your legs feel restless when you try to sleep, feel a creeping, crawling, or stinging sensation in your legs: you may need to rub or move your legs frequently when you try to sleep
- You awaken frequently when you try to sleep, restless sleep or insomnia
- Have violent movements during your sleep
- Chest retraction during sleep in young children (chest pulls in)
- Overweight or rapid weight gain
- High blood pressure
- Confusion upon awakening
- Difficulty concentrating
- Nocturnal snoting, gasping, choking (may wake self up)

Sleep study, also known as a polysomnogram (polysomnography), is a test that records the physical state during the varying stages of sleep and wakefulness. This data can be invaluable to the physician evaluating sleep related complaints, identifying the specific sleep stages of difficulties, brain electrical activity, cardiac related activities, muscle activity, snoring issues or overall sleep behavior.
