Claiborne County Hospital has Community Angel Tree

E-mail Print PDF

Tazewell, TN- Claiborne County Hospital and Nursing Home is sponsoring a Christmas Angel Tree for the third year. This tree, located in the hospital’s Administration office, is made available through a partnership with local VFW Post 8779.  The decorated tree has the names, clothing sizes, and Christmas wishes of several Claiborne County children who need an “angel” to help them have a Merry Christmas this year. Volunteers are requested to select a child, buy and wrap the appropriate presents, and return the wrapped presents to the hospital by November 28th.

Many of the requests made by the children are very simple- a Barbie doll, a book, or maybe a basketball.  Video games and movies are not encouraged, but instead the focus is on traditional outdoor play toys and books. Volunteers are asked to wrap any gifts purchased separately, as younger children sometimes worry if the presents are all in one box. For many children, the packages they receive from this program will be the only presents they receive at Christmas.

Veterans from Post 8770 will begin collecting gifts on November 28th and 29th, with a final pick-up the first week of December.  The children will then receive their gifts from Santa at a Christmas Party at the Post Home in New Tazewell scheduled for the Saturday before Christmas. Thank you for remembering these Claiborne County children; if you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Mary Smith at (423) 526-2201.
